Gregory H. Watson, Chairman of Business Excellence Solutions, Ltd. and President of the International Academy for Quality, was awarded the Magnolia Quality Contribution Award for his contributions to improving quality in China over the past decade.
The Magnolia Award was presented to Mr. Watson during the closing ceremony of the 7th Shanghai International Symposium on Quality. The Magnolia Award is authorized by the Municipal Government of Shanghai and was created in 1989 to honor foreign citizens who have aided Shanghai in its development. The award is named after the early blooming white magnolia whose "eye always looks toward the sky," and has symbolized Shanghai's pioneering and enterprising spirit since being named the official flower in 1986. This award is presented on a bi-annual cycle and it is the highest honor a foreigner can receive in Shanghai.
Past recipients of the Magnolia Quality Contribution Award who are also members of the International Academy for Quality include: H. James Harrington (United States), Lennart Sandholm (Sweden), Miflora M. Gatchalian (Philippines), Alois P. (“Lou”) Magritzer (Australia), Noriaki KANO (Japan), Charles A. Aubrey (United States), Way KUO (Hong Kong), and XU Jichao (China).
